the Incredible story behind the picture from 2000
When I was walking in the hills in Tibet, I suddenly spotted a young boy sitting on a yak.
Yaks are short-legged oxlike mammals living at higher elevations, around 4000-6000 meters. People drink their milk, and it tasted horrible to me.
The way this young boy was sitting on the yak gives me chills even now. His body language and the way he is holding his hands say it all: he gave up life.
To me, this picture reflects sadness, poverty, tragedy, famine, and hopelessness at once. I almost cried as I realized that this – approximately 5-year-old – boy lost his joy in life at such an early age.
On the other hand, this picture also reminds me about how lucky we are to live the life we do and that we should help as many people as we can -like this little boy – to experience the same.
This experience was so shockingly impressive that I remember every little detail, even the way I was dressed.
