Bhutan is a magic kingdom on the top of the Himalayas. 15-20 years ago it was almost impossible to enter this country due to the restrictions on the visa. Only a couple of 1000 people could visit Bhutan every year.

Bhutan is completely isolated, it is surrounded by Tibet, Nepal, and India. There are about 800.000 inhabitants.

Bhutan is often called the happiest country in the world. There are no news services, or international affairs whatsoever. People here are the nicest I’ve ever met in my life. In their constitution, you can find the definition of happiness and it was also enacted that instead of Gross National Product (GDP) the ‘Gross National Happiness’ has to be measured.

The whole country is full of unique plants, animals, and rivers. You can’t harm nature, not even a leaf can be cut down. You see no fight and hear no yelling here. In the capital city, there is only one policeman. It is unbeliveable to be a part of this society.

I traveled around the whole country, I participated in traditional festivals, which were also amazing.

The picture with the 3 men was taken during the central festival, which is held right next to a Buddhist temple for 1 week. They were looking out of the temple’s window when I spotted them.

People are very shy here, they are not really used to being photographed. What makes this picture very interesting to me is as the father and his children are looking in completely different directions to avoid glancing into the camera.
